Those who depend on the spending habits of their customers are increasingly interested in the issues that will make or break job security with the economy in such uncertainty. Commission is the best friend and enemy to the seasoned retailer but these days the latter seems to be the case. 

“Im starting to feel like a strategist!” says one retailer who literally plans how to score sales for the day like a PR pro. “I offer them free shipment, bend over backward son discounts, and even stay open later sometimes.” Anything to make a sale in this economy.

As for the growing interest amongst once latent publics, it seems to have to deal a lot with the pivotal dichotomy between the presidential candidates. The economy, a foremost issue is shadowed and illustrated for many by what each of the candidates represent. Campaign party slogans are thrown around like the word “sale” in the retail word; a word heard not nearly enough as of late.

With the recent financial crisis gripping the country like a viceroy I can’t help but wonder if things are as serious as they seem. Upon turning on the television I am bombarded by news “anchis” and ” “anchers” letting me know that “this young man is the worst financial catactrophe in history!” Critics of the current state of events compare the situation to a modern day Great Depression but, is it?

Before coming to night class I spend my days at a luxury retailer on Oak St. The street is known for it’s high price tags and eccentric shoppers, who many times are high on something. Whether the poison be power or chemical these “elites” occupy their time in a sea of luxury. Only on Oak St. can one find what I like to call an “Economic Narnia.” Once one pushes past the Chanel suits, squeezes past the Alexander MqQueen button down, and slides across the Jimmy Choo waxed floor, a new word appears. A world where the price of anothers housing rent is interchangable with a Fall seasonal purse. A world where the cold day in financial hell is reason to prepare for a winter stint in Miami. 

Its going to take 700 billion dollars to bail the country out of debt; a number that is hard to swallow as I sell designer merchandise that could save one family the financial burdens of the upcoming year. 

So this is the worst financial disaster in history…

It must hurt so good.
